The cosy guest rooms are in converted farm stables built around 2 courtyards which means all rooms are ground floor and vehicles can be safely parked outside your room. This historic Grade II listed building dating back to 1700 is a 10 minute walk from the town centre and train station, and offers renovated, comfortable interiors. Restored to a high standard, The Globe Hotel has excellent bus connections to the University of Essex and other surrounding areas of Colchester. The mainline station is in walking distance which has very good connections to London Liverpool Street every 20 minutes. A 55 minute train journey can bring you to London. Polstead Lodge is a family run business set in the heart of Constable Country in the Dedham Vale and is an area of outstanding natural beauty, the perfect place to centre your exploration of some of the finest villages and towns East Anglia has to offer. Polstead Lodge is approximately 2 miles from Stoke-By-Nayland Golf Club and within five miles of Hadleigh. Short scenic drives will lead you to Lavenham, Kersey, Long Melford and Flatford. Polstead Lodge is an excellent base for both walking and cycling. There are an excellent selection of Pubs and Restaurants within easy reach. Ship Stores Guest House is a 17th Century timber framed listed building that was originally three cottages. Later an external staircase led to drinking rooms, above which were used by local sheep farmers. It is believed the name "ship" is a corruption of "sheep". It has also been a village store for at least the last century. In the early 1970's the accommodation was converted to provide Bed and Breakfast rooms. There are five rooms, all en-suite, available as doubles, twins or singles and family rooms. There are also two large annexe rooms with super king-size beds & newly refurbished bathrooms. All rooms are equipped with TV, Tea/Coffee making facilities, complimentary fresh milk, Mini-bar and hairdryer. An iron, ironing board and wireless internet are also available on request.
